Exposure Notification App Released

I was pleased to participate in a press release earlier today with the Alabama Department of Public Health as we released the Apple/Google exposure notification app for Alabama.

This project has been a tremendous success – the work of thousands to saves the lives of their fellow citizens during the time of pandemic. You can see the press conference or read the news release. The project has been widely covered in the press. You can learn more at https://www.guidesafe.org/exposure-notification-app/ .

Coronavirus and Technology

We have been working very hard over the last couple of months innovating to address the coronavirus pandemic at UAB as well as the across the state. This has lead to a number of national and local interviews and news articles. You can see some of those stories listed below:

With technology systems performing splendidly, we helped develop the symptom tracker software currently being used by 60,000 unique users, automated dozens of workflows, built an app that displays free wifi locations across the state, and published working remote merit badges which has been viewed more than 700,000 times. We even helped fix the local residential service of a local provider despite them.

Cyber-security and Education

Teaching and Learning University recently published an interview with me on practical security at K-12 as well as at the university level. It is a good read and captures a number of points that I have been emphasizing for years.

A Quick Update

It has been a while since I have posted but I’ve been been very busy. Enterpriser’s project published a good article on a culture of learning. It is a good read on how to develop talent for today and the future.

EdTech also featured me in an article of the Trends to Watch in 2020. I discuss the role of engaging and delighting the customer. It’s their cover story for Spring 2020 and I am the first CIO interviewed in the article. Overall, a very good story and start to 2020.

We announced on 1 October Unlimited Adobe Creative Cloud for all students, unlimited Adobe Acrobat for all staff and faculty, and 3,000 licences for Adobe Create Cloud for staff and faculty. The announcement has been well received by the community.
